Salcombe Fishing’s deep sea boat, The Woodpecker, is licensed to take 10 passengers (this includes children). Please note that we require a minimum of 4 passengers to instigate a trip. If you book for less than 4 passengers on the boat, we will not confirm your booking (or charge your card) until we take sufficient bookings. If the minimum number is not reached, we can try and move you to another day and time, or give you the option to pay for 4 passengers.

CAN WE BRING OUR DOG?
Well-behaved and small to medium-sized dogs are very welcome, but only if you the owner are 100% confident that they have sufficient experience in boats (having been in them before), will be well-behaved, and will not bark at other passengers or wildlife!
WHAT IS THE MINIMUM AGE FOR CHILDREN?
For the family fishing trips there is no minimum age limit for children, if you are confident your child will be happy with the potential rock of the boat. We don’t go out when it’s rough, but we would also prefer not to have to turn back if a child suffers from seasickness for the sake of the other paying passengers on the boat. NB If you are bringing a baby they class as a paying passenger.
WHAT HAPPENS IF THE WEATHER IS BAD?
We do not take passengers in rough conditions. If the weather is wet and windy there is usually somewhere we can go and fish which is sheltered, we just recommend wearing the correct clothing.
If the weather is really awful we will cancel all trips, and try and move your booking to a different date. Please note: for 2024 we do not charge your card until we are 100% confident your trip can go ahead, that way avoiding having to refund you. If you choose to pay by BACS we can of course refund you the same way within 24hrs.
CAN I COME IF I’M A TOTAL BEGINNER?
Absolutely! You are the main reason we do it, to teach you the right techniques and see the joy on your face when you catch your first fish!
CAN WE BOOK THE BOAT EXCLUSIVELY AND SIGHTSEE INSTEAD OF FISH?
Yes you can! A few of our guests just want to go for a lovely boat trip around the coast with a picnic, and on a sunny day, what could be better?!
